New Year's resolutions are great in theory, but almost always turn out to be bottomless and unfulfilling. If you are unwilling to make a commitment any other time throughout the year, it is unlikely that you will feel more compelled to make the same commitment on January 1st. It’s not very rational to believe that you can select one day out of the entire year to commit to making a major life change. You have to be willing to commit every day of your life. After years of setting myself up for disappointment, I have learned that it is important to first set smaller goals for yourself to complete in order for you to reach a major goal.
This year, I have decided to create a 2016 bucket list, since I already know the odds of me following through with a resolution are slim to none. There's less pressure and commitment to complete a bucket list, and I do not like to commit to anything unless I'm sure I can deliver. Some of these activities are completely new to me, and some of these activities I have done several times before, but why not do them again? A bucket list will encourage me to try new experiences and to achieve accomplishments that will hopefully bring me closer to fulfilling a life of happiness, love, and adventure. Even if I manage only to complete five of the activities on my list, I can at least say that I accomplished something.
